Area Information

Follow the Kanawha River along Route 62, Rivers to Ridges Heritage Byway, from Nitro to Point Pleasant, where the Great Kanawha meets the Ohio River. Along the way visit Buffalo, chartered 1837, which commemorates its long history and ancient Indian village.

West Virginia's only river museum. Focuses on life on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers. Kids love the 2400-gallon Ohio River fish aquarium and working pilothouse.

Ohio River Floodwall Murals

Learn the early history of Point Pleasant at this interpretative exhibit of 43 murals painted on an 880-foot floodwall along the Ohio River. Sound system adds life to the depictions.

Festivals & Events

Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta
First weekend in July. Live entertainment, food, parade, games and fireworks. All events and entertainment are free.

Mothman Festival
Third weekend in September. Live music, Mothman documentaries and films, vendors, speakers' forum, and tours of Mothman sites.

Battle Days Festival
First full weekend in October. Commemoration of the Battle of Point Pleasant. Historical reenactments, crafts, food, and fun for all ages.

Siege of Fort Randolph
Second weekend of May. Commemorating the siege of Fort Randolph and the murder of Chief Cornstalk. Reenactment at 2 pm on Saturday only.

Woodland Indian Gathering
First weekend in June. Living history event about the French and Indian war era and Eastern Woodland Indians.
